Liposuction (body contouring) Surgery

Liposuction with Mr Hassan Shaaban

Liposuction is a cosmetic procedure that removes fat that you can’t seem to get rid of through diet and exercise. the liposuction procedure is performed on your hips, belly, thighs, buttocks, back, arms, and under the chin or face to improve their shape. But liposuction can also be done with other plastic surgeries, including facelifts, breast reductions, and tummy tucks. .

Mr. Shaaban worked in the NHS in the field of reconstruction following trauma and cancer surgery. His interest lies in the field of facial, breast and body contouring cosmetic surgery.
Mr Shaaban is a consultant plastic surgeon and is a member of the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (BAAPS), the British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (BAPRAS) and International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (ISAPS).

What is a Liposuction?

Liposuction, or lipoplasty, is an extremely popular cosmetic procedure that breaks down fatty deposits and removes them from the body, to enhance the shape of your body and reduce fat. The most common areas Mr Shaaban treats with liposuction include the abdomen, thighs, buttocks, neck, chin, and the upper arm. While we cannot guarantee perfection, liposuction does give the impression of weight loss, and also helps to balance out and streamline the body.

Liposuction may also be part of a Mummy Makeover procedure which may combine liposuction, breast uplift / enlargement and a abdominoplasty

Who is suitable for a liposuction procedure?

Liposuction is an invasive surgery that is best suited for those with saggy, loose, excess skin around the lower stomach area.It is important to keep in mind that while we seek to achieve the best possible results, it is not possible to achieve perfection.

The best candidate for liposuction is someone with an open mind and a reasonable expectation of what can be accomplished through surgery. It is also someone who is committed to a healthy lifestyle to sustain the results.

There is also a plethora of non-surgical solutions aimed at skiing tightening and fat removal, so it could be that you are better suited to these treatments - all of which will be discussed at your consultation.

Mr Shaaban will carry out detailed consultations prior to Liposuction surgery to ensure you are equipped with all the information you need to make this important decision. The consultation also allows us to go through your motivation for thighplasty surgery, and your physical and psychological health.

What happens during and after a liposuction procedure?

Depending on the area being treated, you will either be placed under local or general anaesthetic.  For larger surface areas, such as the stomach, buttocks and thigh, you will most likely be placed under general anaesthetic and will require an overnight stay in hospital. Smaller treatment areas, such as the upper arms, may be operated on under local anaesthetic - which means the treated is numbed, but you will remain awake for the procedure.

First, a small incision (about the width of your index finger) is made in the treated area. A solution is then introduced under the skin via a special tube. This solution helps break down fatty deposits underneath the skin’s surface, allowing the surgeon to remove it via the incision.

Liposuction is aimed at treating excess fat, it is not a procedure that removes excess skin. In some cases, liposuction is carried out in conjunction to a tummy tuck, or abdominoplasty, which removes sagging skin.

It’s important to also note that liposuction is not a weight reduction procedure. At any one time, the maximum amount we remove is 3.5 litres. After the procedure, patients are required to wear special garments for 6 weeks, to help speed up the healing process and to achieve optimum results.

It is advisable to avoid strenuous activity for at least 4 weeks after surgery. All patients receive follow-up appointments with Mr Shaaban, and also have 24-hour access to our team of experts after surgery.

What type of incisions are made?

There’s usually just a few, tiny incisions made near the area, to allow for the liposuction machine’s tube and to remove excess fat.

.

Is there any downtime after a liposuction procedure?

It can take between 4-6 weeks to heal after surgery, and pressure garments are required throughout this period to help heal the wound and achieve the best possible result.

.

Will I have scars?

TScars can take several months to heal, but should fade as they mature.

.

What are the risks and possible side effects?

As with any surgery, there are risks associated with liposuction, including bruising, swelling and discomfort in the area. In some cases, patients may also experience asymmetry, damage to the nerve endings and hematoma.  Your surgeon will go through your health background to minimise risk before and
